First Club Championship title of 2018-19 decided

In warm breezy conditions on a fast track and in front of a healthy little crowd, the mens triples final was decided today.

A 4 on the opening end to Michael Behrend’s team proved to be the difference early on as after that both teams traded ends to stay around 4 shots apart.

Mid game, Behrend’s team started to make their move and got out to a 14-5 lead and the game looked over.  But it wasn’t.

The green was getting slicker and accuracy and weight became more crucial.  The signs were ominous as Michael hays team held a 4 until Michael behrend with the last bowl of the end managed to draw shot stopping a big comeback end and instead stretching the lead to 15-5, but it was only momentarily as Harry Hay, Barry Cornish and Michael Hays started a momentum swing which would see them storm back to tie the game 15-15 on the final end.

Norm grabbed the shot early on the sudden death end only to see Barry draw inside him to swing the lead back to Hays. Michael Hughes with his last bowl tagged the shot bowl and moved the kitty back to change the lead again back to Behrend holding 2 shots. With bowls in front of the head, Hays tried to get through with a little weight to change things but narrowly missed each attempt leaving Michael Behrend, Michael Hughes and Norm Goodwin as our first title winners of 2018-19.
